Respiratory conditions we treat
Sleep and Lung Care’s respiratory physicians (lung doctors) diagnose and manage asthma, COPD and emphysema, chronic cough, breathlessness, lung nodules, lung scarring (interstitial lung disease), bronchiectasis, sarcoidosis, silicosis, allergic rhinitis and pleural disease at Epping, Brunswick, Doncaster East, Braybrook and Kilmore. First appointments are in person; follow-up appointments can be by video where clinically appropriate.
When to see a respiratory physician
Ask your GP for a referral if you have a cough lasting more than eight weeks, breathlessness that limits activity, asthma that is not controlled despite regular preventers, a spot found on a chest X-ray or CT scan, recurring chest infections, or exposure to asbestos or silica dust. If you cough up any blood, seek medical care as soon as possible — call 000 for an ambulance if you cough up a lot of blood or also have chest pain or breathing problems. Lung nodules and suspected lung cancer are reviewed within 48 hours through our rapid access clinic.
How we assess lung conditions
Most assessments combine a consultation with bulk billed lung function tests done at the same clinic. Where needed our physicians arrange CT scans, bronchoscopy and EBUS, and coordinate care with your GP, hospital teams and our thoracic surgeon.
