Dr Ashwin Rajan is a respiratory and sleep medicine physician.
Having been raised in New Zealand, he completed his medical training as a scholarship student at the University of Auckland.
Dr Rajan undertook his specialist training in respiratory and sleep medicine at Peninsula Health, Austin Health and the Victorian Respiratory Support Service (VRSS). Upon completion of training he was admitted to Fellowship of The Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP).
Dr Rajan has extensive experience in the holistic assessment and management of a broad range of respiratory and sleep conditions. These include severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, pleural disease, lung cancer, and complex respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders.
He is also competent in providing caring for patients with complex ventilatory disease having completed his training through the VRSS. Dr Rajan is trained in pulmonary interventional procedures such as standard bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). These are essential in the assessment of pulmonary nodules and diagnosis of lung cancer.
He has special interests in airways disease (asthma) and sleep disordered breathing, and has published articles in these fields. He is also proficient in managing all general respiratory and sleep conditions.
Dr Rajan is a member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ), European Respiratory Society (ERS), American Thoracic Society (ATS) and Australian Sleep Association (ASA). Through these collaborative groups he remains up to date with the latest advancements in respiratory and sleep medicine, thereby delivering high quality, evidence-based care to all his patients.
Dr Rajan understands the importance of empowering patients on their journey to better health. He adopts a caring and patient-centred approach, and collaborates with other health professionals to deliver multi-disciplinary care.
In addition to English, Dr Rajan has fluent comprehension of Tamil.
In his spare time, Ashwin enjoys swimming, hiking and exploring the great outdoors.
